Yes, instances in a stopped state continue to reserve dedicated system resources (RAM, SSD storage, IP aliases, CPU) and therefore incur charges until you destroy the instance. If you wish to no longer accumulate charges for a virtual machine, please use the DESTROY button in the customer portal.
We have not charged your card. What you have observed is a temporary authorization in order to validate the card provided. The hold will automatically expire based on your bank's policy, generally within a few days.
All servers on your account are billed hourly up to the monthly rate cap. The hourly rate is determined by dividing the monthly rate by 672 hours (28 days). If your server is online for more than 672 hours in a calendar month, you will only be billed the monthly rate. Accumulated charges are invoiced to your account on the 1st of every month.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Bitcoin (BTC and BCH), Alipay, UnionPay, and PayPal. Depending on your geographic region, Paypal supports additional payment networks, including Giropay and bank transfers.
Vultr.com is required to collect tax in several countries around the world. This tax is generally referred to as VAT (Value Added Tax), consumption tax, or sales tax. Prices listed on our website do not include tax. Tax will be added to your invoice as a separate line item.

Your bandwidth usage is based on the highest of either your inbound traffic or your outbound traffic. For example, if your VPS uses 100 GB of incoming bandwidth and 200 GB outgoing bandwidth, your utilization for billing purposes would be 200 GB.
Bandwidth utilization in excess of instance allocation is charged at $0.01 per GB in North American and Western European locations. Due to higher regional costs, Singapore and Tokyo (Japan) overage are priced at $0.025 per GB and Sydney (Australia) as well as Seoul (Korea) overages are priced at $0.05 per GB.
If your plan has 1000GB allocated to it, the amount of transfer per hour for overage calculations is 1000 / 672 = 1.48GB/hour. Your pending charges will reflect the overage calculated by this formula. Note: In some cases it may be less expensive to leave your instance running than to destroy it and be assessed overage charges.
Invoices for cloud hosting services prior to January 1st 2017 00:00 UTC represent start and end times in the United States Eastern Standard Time zone. All invoices after this date will reflect start and end times in UTC.
Two factor authentication allows you to configure an additional means of authentication on your account. When logging into Vultr, you are prompted with an additional login step after entering your password. This adds extra security to your account. We support Google Authenticator and Yubikey devices. Authy was previously supported, but has since been removed.

Dedicated Cloud instances offer resources allocated to you with no noisy neighbors. You can rent 25%, 50%, 75%, or an entire dedicated server with the advantages of the Vultr platform including hourly billing and fast provisioning.
Bare Metal instances offer direct access to dedicated servers with no noisy neighbors. Compared to compute instances which are deployed in a virtualized cloud environment, bare metal grants you unrestricted access to the underlying physical servers making these servers suitable for even the most resource intensive workloads.
Vultr Bare Metal supports a wide range of our Vultr cloud features, including all stock operating system images, one click apps, startup scripts, and SSH key preloading. Certain features - including snapshots, custom ISOs, additional IPs, and private networking - are currently not available. More features will be added in the near future, so stay tuned! See our full feature list
Information regarding the usage of block storage with our Linux and Windows instances can be found here.
All servers on your account are billed hourly up the the monthly rate cap. The hourly rate is determined by dividing the monthly rate by 672 hours (28 days). If your server is online for more than 672 hours in a calendar month, you will only be billed the monthly rate. Accumulated charges are invoiced to your account on the 1st of every month.
Yes, you can modify the size for your block storage within the members area. Please note that this will require a reboot of the instance in which your block storage is attached.
No. Block storage can only be attached to instances deployed in the same region.
No, because of potential data loss you cannot perform an in-place downgrade of block storage, but you can use these steps to migrate your files to a smaller block storage subscription.
The $2.50 IPv6 only sandbox plan is intended for general platform testing and it is limited to 2 instances per account. The $3.50 plan is similar to the $2.50 plan but it also includes an IPv4 address by default. The limit on the $3.50 plan is 5 instances per account. Their primary purpose is for early development and testing of ideas before upgrading or snapshot re-deployment to a larger permanent instance. These plans are not available for API automation.
Yes, Vultr Object Storage is our S3-compatible object storage solution.
Files (objects) can be transferred to Vultr Object Storage directly from Vultr instances by using an S3-compatible tool or SDK. Our Vultr Object Storage documentation includes examples for the popular tool, "s3cmd".
Block storage provides a disk volume that can be mounted on a Vultr instance. Object storage provides an internet-accessible (HTTPS) endpoint where files can be stored and retrieved.
Files (objects) transferred to Vultr Object Storage are "private" by default. This means that you need a secret key in order to access them. However, some tools allow you to override this behavior - be sure to check the documentation included with the tool or SDK that you use to interact with object storage.
In the Vultr dashboard you will be able to assign and remove instances to a given Load Balancer.
You do not have to worry about managing Vultr Load Balancers. They are fully managed.
Vultr Load Balancers support TCP, HTTP, and HTTPS.
Vultr Load Balancers are bandwidth neutral. We only charge on bandwidth on the instances attached to the load balancer.
Unfortunately not. Load Balancers and attached instances must be in the same region.
Kubernetes is an industry-proven container management solution. The Vultr Kubernetes Engine is the fastest way to begin deploying your cloud-native apps at scale.
The Vultr Kubernetes Engine is a fully-managed product offering with predictable pricing that makes Kubernetes easy to use. Vultr manages the control plane and worker nodes and provides integration with other managed services such as Load Balancers, Block Storage, and DNS.
A container provides an isolated environment for an application, which must be managed and connected to the external world.
We plan to start the closed beta in the first quarter of 2021.
Yes! You can deploy your own cluster and install our plugins like the Vultr Cloud Controller Manager (CCM), Container Storage Interface (CSI), or use Condor to deploy a cluster. Vultr is a first-class citizen in Kubernetes.
Kubernetes uses Vultr cloud servers. It does not support Bare Metal servers.
